The Trauma Intervention Program of Northern Nevada is seeking volunteers ahead of their upcoming training academy.
TIP provides community volunteers on a 24/7/365 basis to assist those who’ve experienced traumatic events. Volunteers are called upon by emergency responders within the first few hours following an incident to provide emotional and practical support.
TIP volunteers most often respond to daily disasters the public doesn’t necessarily hear about like natural death, suicides, infant deaths and other accidents.
An informational night is scheduled on Oct. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. Guest speakers will share their experience with TIP and giving potential trainees the opportunity to learn more about the program.
Volunteer training consists of 32 hours and two weeks of evening and weekend classes including lectures, demonstrations, hands on training and guest speakers.
Applicants must be 16 years old, have a valid driver’s license, have reliable transportation and a cell phone. No prior experience is needed to become a volunteer. All trainees will be required to undergo a background check. TIP is also in need of Spanish speakers.
